Alpha Australia

Alpha Australia is the Australian home of a global movement that started around a table in London over thirty years ago and now reaches millions every year, through churches, schools, workplaces and living rooms. Running everything from film series to national leadership tours, their footprint is enormous, and their old website, built on Wix, hadn’t kept up. It was time for a site as ambitious as the mission itself.

Challenge

Alpha isn’t one program, it’s dozens: series for youth, church, prisons, workplaces, online and multiple language communities, layered with training, events, campaigns and a constant stream of video content. The brief was to bring all of it under one roof, on infrastructure that could actually carry it, without losing the warmth and sense of invitation that makes Alpha, Alpha. It also had to be genuinely self-sufficient. Alpha’s team runs a steady stream of campaigns and events, each needing its own distinct look, and they needed to build and launch these pages themselves, without waiting on a developer every time.

Solution

We designed and built a completely bespoke WordPress site from the ground up, replacing the Wix site with something built to carry a genuinely huge amount of content without losing its energy. Video sits at the centre of almost every page, woven through rather than bolted on, giving the site the same lively, human feel as an actual Alpha session.

The real work went into the system behind the scenes. We built a flexible set of design variables that let Alpha’s team swap fonts, colours and styling on campaign and event pages in a few clicks, so each initiative can carry its own identity without ever touching code. Paired with an intuitive editing experience, it means the team can manage and grow a large and complex site entirely in-house.

The result is a site that finally matches the scale of what Alpha does, and still feels like an invitation to sit down at the table.
